9 Tips On How To Make An Awesome Lead Capture Page

Essentially a lead generation website or what is commonly known now a days as a lead capture page, inspires a new visitor to opt in to receive more info about your goods and services.  It should be a  stand alone page that promotes a single offer.  It should contain great copy of relevant information that will solve a problem of your target market  in exchange for their email and/or name and sometimes phone number.

Creating  a high converting lead capture page has the potential for  you to grow a huge list of highly targeted customers.

A lead capture page is used by affiliate marketers, internet marketers, network marketers and  essentially anyone who has a product to sell and would like to connect with potential customers.  It’s a win win situation in that you give them relevant, useful  information in exchange for their contact details. 

This only works well if your lead capture page is congruent with your target market and the product you are selling or giving away.

In many cases this is the first exposure your customer has with you so you want to make a great first impression.  This is the beginning of a long, fruitful relationship between you and your customer.

How it works

  1. Define your target market which I explain in another postTargeting everyone is targeting no one.
  2. Design an attractive page that will make people want to opt in.
  3. Drive Traffic to your capture page through free and paid strategies.
  4. Target market sees value in your offer and fills out their contact info. and becomes a lead.
  5. Start building a relationship with your leads through email and phone follow up.
  6. Monetize your list with further relationship building and offers of other highly relevant products that they will buy.
  7. Develop a list of happy customers that buy from you instead of you selling to them.

Tips to Create An Attractive Lead Capture Page

First off, you want your page to have enough information but not too much as you want your audience to fill out the form.  You want to create curiosity, ask questions and give a little education.  Also include the following:

  1. Eye Popping Images are a sure fire way of catching someone’s attention. Canva and  Pic Monkey are great tools to use to create images.
  2. Having a video of yourself is a highly effective way of getting leads as this personalizes you to your product. It is important to keep it short, no longer than 1 min.  Preferably less.
  3. Catchy Headlines are a must to grab someone’s attention. There are many sites and tools that you can google that will create  great headlines for free.
  4. Relevant, useful copy that explains the benefits of your offer not the features. How will the product make them feel, what does it do for them.  Again be congruent with your offer and the product.  It’s just bad business to offer one thing and  your lead gets something else.
  5. Optimized lead form. Your opt in form must have a space for them to fill in their email.  For simple offers, you generally just want the name and email and maybe phone number.  Typically the less info you ask for the more leads you will get but they might not be as targeted.  I typically ask for name and email with optional phone number.
  6. CTA or call to action button should be below the form and  should be a command such as ‘download now’, ‘get your free report now’
  7. Your lead capture page should be integrated to an autoresponder so that you can easily email to your list other information and products and services.  My autoresponder of choice is Aweber but I hear good things about Get Response too.
  8. Your page should also link to a thank you page or confirmation page that will have the product or instructions how to get the information, product or service.
  9. Some confirmation pages may include upsells but that is a little more advanced and beyond the scope of this article. Essentially upsells are additional products your customer can buy that are typically more expensive.  This is a good strategy as they buy one thing they are more apt to buy something else from you too.

Other elements but not essential are

  1. Typically for a simple one product offer, you will not need a guarantee on the page especially if your offer is free.
  2. Testimonials: For a higher priced product, testimonials might be a good thing to have on your page but again for simple offer, it should not matter.  But it  does help build you as an authority and will help to show you in a positive light.
