The main purpose of a tweet is to get engagement. Once you have the engagement then getting retweeted is an awesome way for your Twitter following to exponentially grow.  By getting retweeted by just one person you have now been exposed to a whole new audience and potential new followers.    Keep these below nuggets in mind when creating content for your tweets for maximum retweet exposure.

-Valuable Content:   Your tweets should be engaging by asking your followers questions.  Good questions would be what kind of information are they looking for, what kind of problems are they having.                   Your tweets should be fun and entertaining. It doesn’t have to be something to do with your industry, it could just be something fun like what’s your favorite 70’s show. Empowering tweets with inspirational               quotes are very popular.  Educating your twitter followers is another good way of growing your followers.  If you do a good job with the content of the tweet and you are connecting with the right audience,                you will more than likely start to get retweeted.

-Include Pictures: Studies have been done and the results are out that the most popular retweets are tweets that have pictures or video in them.  Inspirational quotes with a picture will boost retweet                        potential even more

-Time of Day:  More people are on Twitter when they get home from work so evenings and weekends are very popular times to be tweeting.

-Ask for it!:  This might seem obvious but asking for a retweet will actually get you results.

-Be a Retweeter:  Retweeting other people’s tweets and mentioning influencer’s in your tweets, will also increase the chances for you to be retweeted.

-Mentions:  Including industry leaders in your tweets can get you noticed and retweeted.  These are good if you have just read a great book and wanted to tweet about it with the authors name.  Don’t be                   surprised if the author comes back with a mention to you and a possible retweet.

-Hashtags:  Using hashtags can double your exposure especially if using a popular keyword. Hashtags are searchable.  Many connections can be made by doing this strategy.  But you don’t want to use too            many.  Two to three would be plenty.

-Links:  Adding a link to your tweet is not a bad idea.  Especially if it is going to your website or blog.  It’s a good way to drive traffic to your sites.

-Engagement:  Interacting with your followers will also go a long way in getting retweeted.  Good social media etiquette would be if someone follows you, thank them in a direct message and/ or welcome                  tweet. Start a conversation because this is really what it’s all about on social media.  Connecting with people and building relationships

Last thing to keep in mind,   because Twitter is a feed based platform, your tweets can be lost on your audience so to keep eyeballs on your stuff, tweet a lot and consistently.  The Twitter users with a big presence online, will tweet 20+ times a day with the average being about 22 tweets.  Fortunately there are tools out there now that can help with sending your tweets out if you don’t have the time to do it.  Hootsuite and TweetJukebox are two very popular programs but there are many others and will be a topic for future post.
