Lack of leads has to be in the top three for network marketers pain points. It is funny that there is a lack of leads in the network marketing industry as there are millions of network marketers out there and 95% of them have this problem. So what’s the deal? There are several reasons. Today’s market has gotten so competitive that you do have to stand out if you want to be seen. Fortunatley, when using attraction marketing strategies, that will never be a problem because the saying “Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe” is very true. Secondly, lead generation is a learned skill and most people are not taught properly. It’s not rocket science, but here educating yourself is a must. Thirdly, network marketers think lead generation can be done for free and here I can come up with two sayings that fit. “ You get what you pay for” and Ray Higdon has a great one that says “Free is the most expensive way to freedom.” Network marketing is a business and money needs to be invested in the business and into yourself so that you will have the proper mindset and the proper skill sets. A fourth reason is a lot of marketers get into the business but treat their business like a hobby instead of the business. A good tip I read somewhere is at the end of the day when you review what you did that day, ask yourself “would you hire yourself from work that you had done that day” If you are honest with yourself and your answer is no, then you definitely need a mind set shift.
After reading many a blog and watching many a video and trying countless social media platform strategies, I have come up with a list that if you follow it, will lead you on the path to success.
Be A Student: This goes with out saying for any profession. If you are new or have been in the business a while, education is key. Especially with social media, it is constently changing. So keeping up with what is new and working is a must. It has been proven time and time again that to achieve success in your endeavors education is key.
Brand Yourself: Second, you should be of the mind set that you should be branding yourself and not the company you represent. There is a time and place for your company to come into the dialogue but it is not on initial exposures to you. Branding yourself is a whole other huge topic. When branding yourself, make sure that on all your social media platforms that you use, have your profile picture as a picture of you and not your company or a logo. Having a picture of you is key for people to identify with you. The header picture for your platforms should represent your message not your companies message. And your bio, could tell a little bit about your story (if there is room), your interests and hobbies, your message and what you do. For example my Twitter bio says I’m a network marketing professional, attraction marketing enthusiast and I hashtag socialmediamarketing and mindset because those are two things that I like to train on. I also put where I live because that does touch on the personal side and I finish with one of my favorite quotes. Pick One Strategy: When you are planning your lead generation strategy, all top earners have one thing in common. They focus and commit to one social media platform until they start getting at least 10-20 leads per day. There are many platform strategies to choose from and not the focus of this post. The important thing here is to stick to your one chosen strategy. The most successful and popular platforms are of course Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Blogging, Youtube. All these platforms have their pros and cons. Pick one that you are comfortable with. Once you get the first one down, the others will be faster to grasp.
Attract Your Tribe: Lead generation involves collecting a person’s name and email in exchange for something of value usually in the form of some sort of content. Once you have decided on the social media platform, what are you going to say to get people to give you their name and email? The easiest way is to offer your audience a piece of valuable content that is FREE. Marketers refer to this as lead magnets orlead bait. Your lead magnet will usually be a PDF or video or audio that solves one of their problems. Many problems that network marketers have are technology issues and social media challenges. Ask yourself what does your audience struggle with. A good way to get that info is just to ask your audience what their biggest struggles are. You would be surprised how willing your audience is to answer. Your lead magnet should also have a strong call to action.
Target Audience: I’m sure you have heard the expression “marketing to everyone is marketing to no one.” This is so important with respect to lead generation. You must have a clearly defined message and then figure out who your message appeals to. If you are reading this post, you are probably in the network marketing industry. I used to think that that was specific enough. You have to dig deeper to find out exactly who they are. Your target audience probably has some similarities to you. What is their age, where do they hang out online? What books do they read? What are there hobbies and interests? What keeps them up at night? Answering these questions will go along way in identifying your target audience. A few simple strategies you can use to find your audience is to look for top influencers in your industry and connect with their followers. Hashtag and keyword research are two good ways to find people too. As an example, put in a hashtag or keyword relevant to your target audience in the twitter search bar. Then Twitter will search its 500 million users and find the ones that use that hashtag or keyword. By following them on the social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, you will find a lot will follow you back.
BE CONSISTENT: The only way to generate leads on a consistent basis is to be consistent. And I mean for a good long while. You need to create momentum, 90 day cycles should be the minimum length of time to focus on one strategy to start getting results. It is helpful to track your activities and results. Have realistic goals set for these 90 day cycles. A good consistent goal would be to talk with at least 10 people a day about your business. You should also expose your audience to your lead magnets on a consistent basis too. Not every exposure should be an offer, you will want to mix that up with free valuable content. A good rule to follow would be 80% free valuable content to 20% offers. The idea is for your followers to get to know, like and trust you. Then they are more likely to see value in what you have to offer.
ENGAGE: Once you start generating leads, following up and engaging them is key to building a list of raving fans. The best way to do this to set up an autoresponder such as aweber or getresponse. Collect your leads in there and send out your newletter to them on a consistent basis. A lot of top earners will email out to their list daily, some only a few times a week. I’m not sure if this has been documented but the people with the bigger lists tend to be people who email to their list more often. Sure you might get the odd person who complains that you email too much but they are few are far between and probably someone you don’t really want on your list anyway.
